You and Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence (EI) consist of being self-aware, self-regulated, motivated, empathic, and having above average social skills understanding that your emotions affect the people you are involved with at home, work, and/or at social activities. Your ability to identify and comprehend how to use emotions are imperative to managing anxiety, effectively communicating, overcoming issues, and solving problems (Drigas & Papoutsi, 2018).

As cognitive intelligent human beings lets begin to practice EI:
  1. Become self-aware by being honest with yourself acknowledging and understanding both your strengths and weaknesses and then working on improving both of these traits.
  2. Practice controlling your emotions and impulses by not being impulsive, getting too angry, thinking prior to responding/acting, and functioning in integrity and if you slip it's okay just pick up where you left off and start again, because "do overs" are allowed.
  3. Keep motivated in your endeavors and business affairs remembering that long term success may take longer to accomplish keeping in mind that the rewards will be great!
  4. As co-residents on the planet understanding the viewpoints of others along with their wants, needs, and desires will be imperative as stereotyping and judging is replaced with empathy.
  5. Operate and function with a mentality of helping others to reach their full potential or at least guide them in the direction of being better at the role thy are playing in this screenplay called life!

Feelings & Dis~ease

unknown image creator

We all experience a myriad of emotions throughout our day just as the above Plutchik's Emotional Wheel depicts and often times, we ask each other "why are you in your feelings?" as if the feelings should not exist! However, they do exists and to push them away particularly when those feelings are negative or pretend that you don't feel a certain way about a certain thing and/or situation will only be to your own detriment.

Every feeling makes an impression onto our subconscious minds and the subconscious accepts the feelings as true regardless of if those feelings are anger, bliss, contempt, disapproval, fear, rage, joy, or love. The subconscious will bring to reality whatever type of good bad, or indifferent feeling that sets up residence in our minds.

Since our bodies are emotional filters we must be cognizant of our moods and try to find outlets that will not injure either ourselves or others in the expression of those negative feelings. Some people find release from negative feelings by painting, gardening, listening to loud music, dancing, running, scribbling on paper, banging the piano keys, but one thing that you should not do is let those negative feelings fester inside you. Supplant the negative feeling with a positive feeling.

Keep in mind that festered and suppressed feelings are the beginning cause of all dis~eases expressed in the body find your outlet for managing your negative feelings since if we can change our feelings we ultimately change the state of both our physical and mental health.

Remember it's okay to feel the feelings (good, bad, indifferent), however; it's not okay to allow the feelings to take up residence in the recesses of your mind and manifest as high blood pressure, a stroke, ulcers, IBS, colitis, cancers, headaches, body aches and other unfortunate dis~eases.

Grasshoppers In Our Own Sight

Unknown Artist

Your moral code has reached its climax, the blind alley at the end of its course. and if you wish to go on living, what you now need is not to retun to morality-you who have never known any-but to discover it (Rand, 1957).

Man's mind is his basic tool of survival. Life is given to him, survival is not. His body is given to him, its sustenance is not. His mind is given to him, its content is not. To remain alive, he must act, and before he cn act he must know the nature and purpose of his action. he cannot obtain his food without a knowledge of food and of the way to obtain it. he cannot dig a ditch-or build a cyclotron-without a knowledge of his aim and of the means to achieve it. to remain alive, he must think (Rand, 1957).

AS HE THINKS IN HIS HEART SO IS HE (Holy Bible, NKJV).

There we saw the giants; and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight (Holy Bible, NKJV).

Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Holy Bible, KJV).

Bananas Effect on Depression

We all know about the well-known chemical compounds of bananas such as vitamin B6, vitamin C, riboflavin, folic acid, magnesium, and potassium, but do we all know that bananas have two super powers that affects the neurotransmitters within our brain?  These super powers are called tyrosine and tryptophan! Tyrosine synthesizes dopamine that help brain nerve impulses and Tryptophan helps with the production of serotonin (Filipowicz, 2019).

Dopamine deficiency is often related to issues such as depression, memory, learning, concentration, and motor control (Cadman & Falck, 2018). Serotonin sends signals between nerve cells and must be consumed and the lack there of may cause depression (Scaccia & Wilson, 2017).

Give bananas a try by eating a banana a day to help keep the gloomy moods away! Hippocrates, the Greek founder of western medicine, said it best when he advised us to let our food be our medicine. In addition, to that I'll say if you are on medication continue taking your prescribed medication and consult with your physician regarding adding bananas to your current dietary plan. For those of you that are healthy and simply want to keep your mood up during these trying times add a banana to your diet and live in the present moment of enjoying each second of each day!

A Pandemic Within a Pandemic...Dear God Save Us!

As frihtening as that may sound it is unfortunately the way of life for many women and children. We've been restricted to our homes for safety from an unseen foe while at the same time some of our homes have become unsafe for the women and children that live in them!

Spending quality time together with the ones that we love should be a wonderful, enjoyable experience to be cherished. This downtime should have given us an opportunity to connect with our loved ones in a relaxed, loving atmosphere of getting reacquainted by cooking together, playing board games, reading with the kidws, teaching algebra, doing science projects, watching movies, and video chatting with friends.

Instead, 24/7 lock-down reality has been so devastating that the Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, recently Tweeted "I urge all governments to put women's safety first as they respond to the pandemic"! He is not referring to the pandemic of Covid-19! He is referring to the pandemic of Domestic Violence!

CBS Weekend News reporter, Mireyea Villarreal, showed the below startling statistics that aired on Sunday, May 24, 2020 indicating domestic violence climbing at an alarming rate:
