Bananas Effect on Depression

We all know about the well-known chemical compounds of bananas such as vitamin B6, vitamin C, riboflavin, folic acid, magnesium, and potassium, but do we all know that bananas have two super powers that affects the neurotransmitters within our brain?  These super powers are called tyrosine and tryptophan! Tyrosine synthesizes dopamine that help brain nerve impulses and Tryptophan helps with the production of serotonin (Filipowicz, 2019).

Dopamine deficiency is often related to issues such as depression, memory, learning, concentration, and motor control (Cadman & Falck, 2018). Serotonin sends signals between nerve cells and must be consumed and the lack there of may cause depression (Scaccia & Wilson, 2017).

Give bananas a try by eating a banana a day to help keep the gloomy moods away! Hippocrates, the Greek founder of western medicine, said it best when he advised us to let our food be our medicine. In addition, to that I'll say if you are on medication continue taking your prescribed medication and consult with your physician regarding adding bananas to your current dietary plan. For those of you that are healthy and simply want to keep your mood up during these trying times add a banana to your diet and live in the present moment of enjoying each second of each day!
